Well, it’s come around again…time to update the WordPress files that are behind the scenes of blogs like this one. Sometimes the new updates include new features and bug fixes, while other updates include new security measures. Update to version 2.07 for the latest in WordPress security.
Here’s the basic steps to follow:
- Sign in to CPanel. Open phpMyAdmin and export DB to local disk. Save both zipped and unzipped versions for good measure.
- FTP all WP files to local disk, including images and .htaccess.
- Deactivate ALL plug-ins through WP admin panel.
- Verify backups to make sure the files can be opened and that the files are actually there and not corrupted. Burn to disk or upload to online storage provider. You now have a complete backup of your site!
- Sign in to CPanel and go to Fantastico. Upgrade to the latest WordPress version.
- Activate your plug-ins one by one. Don’t forget Akismet!
